We read a range of plays: classical and modern, tragedy, comedy and farce. Most of us read ahead beforehand, with dictionaries and, after reading round the group, we discuss both the content and the language of the plays.
During the past year we have completed three plays. "La Folle de Chaillot" by Jean Giraudoux, rather strange, to say the least, but enjoyable. We followed this by completing Marcel Pagnol"s trilogy, reading both "Fanny" and "Cesar", beautifully written comedies set in Marseille in the 1930s, having read "Marius" last session.
We are beginning the next session with another comedy, "Le Voyage de Monsieur Perrichon" by Eugene Labiche, an author unknown to most of us
