We aim to invite members to write with confidence in a variety of genres, including short fiction, poetry, drama or memoir; to offer feedback on writing; and to provide advice and suggestions for development. We are open to writers at all levels of experience.
For each meeting, a different task is set to all members: this ranges from simply a topic, to varying genres (prose narrative, poetry, or drama), or differing styles of fiction writing (eg first person narration, or unreliable narrator). We also looked at the use of effective dialogue. Alternatively, members are always free to write in any style they wish, or in a genre of their choice if that is more appropriate.
Every member attending would always have written something. The standard has been pleasingly high, despite some pleading inexperience! Members are encouraged to offer constructive comment and criticism of each others’ work, and this discussion has been agreed to be helpful and indeed enjoyable.
Because of the good standard of writing, it has been agreed that the group will attempt to self-publish an anthology by late 2020, incorporating writing from all of us. Any new members will be expected to contribute to this.
New members will be welcome; experience is not necessary, on condition they understand that everyone is expected to write a ‘homework’ piece of up to seven hundred words for each meeting!
