We meet to hear from those organisations or individuals who are making important contributions within the local community around the time of our meeting.
The 8 subjects presented this year included a local lady who has devoted many, many hours to coaching local para-swimmers. Having also been an umpire at the London Olympic games the audience were thrilled to see her so recognised. A volunteer from the nearby Kinfauns Stables Riding for the Disabled who gave another good example of the satisfaction gained by being a Volunteer.
A third speaker described how he had fought back from his Stroke in 2011. He described how he not only fought back but is now helping others through his voluntary work with the Perth Stroke Association.
Another speaker showed she will take up any tough challenge in order to raise money for a worthwhile charity such as breast cancer. Her illustrated talk featured her recent trek to the Mount Everest base camp. Her photographs were amazing and just proved how difficult the terrain was as she progressed towards reaching her goal. Still on the subject of mountaineering, a retired fire officer, at a later talk, spoke of his tough difficult work with the Tayside Mountain Rescue Group. Conditions prevailing at a call-out are never simply a stroll. Another fire officer gave plenty of advice as regards fire and safety in the home. He showed several examples of families ignoring simple precautions in the home.
A church Minister shared his work with the Tulloch community. Through his involvement with the Tulloch Hub group, he is helping people combat loneliness by providing an environment for building friendships. Finally the Project Officer for Perthshire Creates with P & K, showed a number of examples that hopefully will help promote Perthshire.
It has been easy to find those organisations and individuals who automatically go out of their way to help our Community. It has been a pleasure listening to them all.
