Book Group 2

Group contact: Janet White
Another wonderful year of reading in which we have sampled many familiar and not so familiar
themes and genres. Whatever we read always results in lively, interesting and usually in-depth
discussion. Quite often the theme, plot or characters will take us beyond the books pages enabling us
to reflect on our own experiences and the state of the world in which we live. We certainly never have
a dull meeting!
We also enjoyed visiting the international Edinburgh Book Festival where we were able to listen to
Victoria Hislop talk about her extensive knowledge of Greece and her people. She uses this to weave
wonderful stories that are sad, joyful, sometimes harrowing but also uplifting. We also heard Alan
Johnson, the ex-labour MP, talk about his love of music as he grew up in the sixties. As most of us
are of a similar age group we could certainly identify with this. We meet in the North Kirk on the
second Thursday of the month.
