Fortnightly on Thursdays from 10:15a.m. - 12:15p.m. Resuming 9th September 2021, venue 17 Varndean Gardens.
Our group is quite informal in its make-up. We currently have four Patcham members plus four regular visitors from Brunswick and Brighton & Hove u3as. For half the year we are joined by a British couple who spend their summers in Brighton and for health reasons have to winter in the south of France.
We have one basic rule and that is to try to avoid speaking English between 10.15am and 12.15pm on the alternate Thursdays when we meet. Over coffee and biscuits we talk about whatever comes to mind and help each other out with grammar and/or vocabulary as appropriate. The key thing we emphasise is flexibility and trying not to overcomplicate what we want to say. The list of topics we have covered is quite amazing, ranging from international politics, science, poetry and current affairs to the latest books we’ve read or a recent theatre/cinema visit/holiday we’ve enjoyed.
As the group has developed we have learned much more about each other and have become good friends, but not to the exclusion of others. It’s a great group to be a member of and we have lots of fun whilst improving our spoken French.
Sadly, at present we shall not be able to accept new members as eight is the maximum we can fit into our living room.
