Art Appreciation 1
The group meets on the 4th Thursday afternoon of the month at 2.00 pm in members' homes. We look at the lives and works of artists, be it a single individual or a group, or we look at a specific theme. Since the start of the group in 2008 we have covered most well-known European artists in chronological order. We have also looked at less main-stream artists. Occasionally we go on an outing to art galleries around the country. Our aim is to try to learn something new and to have fun at the same time. Recently we have changed our working practise. Now all members have an input into each meeting. We hold a 6-monthly planning meeting when all the members come with their suggestions for future topics. We take a vote if needed and put a programme in place. At any one meeting the member who suggested the topic will give a short introduction following which all members will contribute a piece to the discussion. We feel this approach is better, it gives everybody a chance to take part and do a bit of research. We always have fun and lively discussions.
