Music Appreciation 1
We meet once a month in the leader’s home. It will usually be on the 2nd Monday of the month at 10 am, but we will be flexible to enable the maximum number of meetings (9 - 12) and attendances (19 - 20 maximum). Western Classical Music is being explored by studying in chronological order the music of composers who have made a significant contribution to its development. Each period is prefaced with a lecture on the social environment in which the composers lived. The following meetings deal with the life and times of the chosen composers, and examples of their best works are played. The musicology is dealt with very lightly and just sufficiently to illustrate the contribution made to the development of Western Classical Music. A recommended listening list for each composer is given out.
