Coffee House Discussions

In the 18th Century in Scotland people often got together in Coffee Houses to discuss new ideas and matters of the day. Online Across Scotland is delighted to present an online equivalent for the digital age through a series of interactive discussions.

These talks will be held on the first Thursday of each month at 4pm.

Thu May 2nd Awake, sleep and dreaming

Dr. Bob Pullen is a retired University Lecturer who has spent many years giving lectures on the brain to Medical, Pharmacy and Biology students. He has also undertaken brain research in England and America. During this time, he has learned many interesting facts about the human brain which he includes in this interactive talk. The talk starts with a simply description of the structure of the brain, how nerves work and how different parts of the brain are responsible for keeping us awake and making us go to sleep.

The talk continues to explain how we have different kinds of sleep and why we dream. Bob asks the audience to talk about their own dreams and the meaning of dreams is discussed.
