York March 2017

48 members were on this visit. On arrival in York members were ready for their tea/coffee biscuits, which we enjoyed in the Hilton Hotel. This was followed by a tour of Fairfax House which is one of England's finest Georgian townhouses set in the heart of York. It was originaly the home of Lord Fairfax and his daughter Anne. It's richly decorated interiors and magnificent stucco ceilings make it a masterpiece of Georgian design and architecture. We were entertained by tales of the customs and habits of the York gentry and aristocracy during the 18th century. Well worth a visit.
After this tour we enjoyed a 2 course lunch which was both tasty and well presented. The efficiency of the restaurant allowed us more time than I had anticipated and we were able to enjoy the sunshine whilst strolling through The Shambles to our next tour at the Chocolate Story.
Here we discovered the stories behind the greatest names in chocolate, learned all about chocolate making and even tried the art of being a chocolatier when we were able to decorate our own white chocolate lollipops. Very tasty. I enjoyed mine the following day. During the tour samples of different chocolates were offered .
Traffic was kind to us and we arrived back on time after another enjoyable day spent with discover & dine members.
