As used by Roy Smeck a famous multi instrumentalist in the 1920s and '30s, particularly noted for his Ukulele playing. Roy appeared in early "talking pictures" where the sound was played via huge 16 inch discs synchronised with the film - the so-called Vitaphone system, hence the name of this particular Uke.
This example is strung with fluorocarbon strings with a wound low G string as opposed to a high G (standard re-entrant tuning). The Uke has a solid cedar top and a mahogany back. It is halfway between a soprano and concert Uke.
