Classical Music – Insights
UPDATE DURING COVID 19
Communication with the Musical insights group is by written means. As previously reported,
the practicalities of playing music on Zoom has been explored but it works badly as everyone's computer is different
so we do have to resort to regular letters.
Members also regularly circulate information about coming 'virtual' events, such as the Proms and Edinburgh Festival.
Members are understanding about their having to go without their monthly meeting at this time they are however
looking forward to normal service being resumed
This group is full but during this period of time if you wish to be included in the virtual events please contact the study groups coordinator

This group, which started in September 2011, is designed to appeal to people who have a love for Classical Music and wish to share their opinions and thoughts on the subject with like minded people. Each of the group's monthly programmes is created around a theme and so far we have held programmes on such themes as the Symphony, the Concerto, Verdi and Puccini, Heroes and Villains, Conductor and Orchestra, Music and Religion, the A to Z of music, not forgetting our Desert Island Discs – and many more!
In planning as I write are programmes about Mahler, Shakespeare and Music in Films (but not film music).
As was to be expected, the discussion stimulated by the music has been lively, to say the least. We meet in the Group Leader's home which, on the plus side, creates a relaxed, informal atmosphere however this has inevitably created problems by restricting the number of people able to book into the meetings because of the limited space.
Have we been successful? I think the answer must be a qualified yes because of the member base and their continued support both by their presence and their lively contribution to the programmes.
We look forward to continuing success in the future
