Walks and Rambles

A 3rd group is starting for new walkers so if you are interested please see Walks and Rambles 3 in the group pages and contact the Study Groups Coordinator

Details of each month's walks will be sent to members by email

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

For lunch breaks on 8 mile walks some of us bring packed lunch & some opt for a short pub/cafe stop for a light lunch, we try to keep this to 40-45 mins.

Meeting places as programme, stations at 10.30 or if Fairfield its at 9.30 to drive to the start of walks in different areas. We share cars & petrol costs at 20 pence a mile.

In months where there is a 5th Thursday we go out for the day, these walks may be a bit further away & a bit longer, we usually don’t do a recce, we have a leisurely pub lunch. Anyone who has previously come on an 8 mile walk is welcome, you must book with Janet.

We must remind walkers that you all walk at your own risk, although of course we plan for no risks & all look out for each other. We carry 1st Aid & some of us are trained in it

More details just ask, we are usually at the Main Wednesday Monthly meetings or feel free to ring or email any of the leaders, Jarka, Kerry or Janet, or Ann Smith Study Groups Coordinator. Our mobile nos are available for problems on walk days.

NEWS: MONEY GIVEN TO THE WALKING GROUP
“The Walking Partnership” set up by Ramblers Worldwide Holidays have given us £400 to date!
Why ?? Some of our U3A members have been on river cruising, sightseeing or walking holidays with Ramblers Holidays.
So ?? They nominated our walking group to receive £10 per person on UK holidays, £20 on European or £30 on long haul from Ramblers Worldwide Holidays.
Why ?? The Walking Partnership gives money to local groups to help with organising walks, encouraging people to get out walking, providing equipment to help walkers etc. Ramblers Worldwide Holidays has given many millions of pounds to walking charities & conservation projects in Britain and the countries they visit.
What did we do with it ?? Some of the above, Janet will tell you the detail if you ask her..
Any U3A member can nominate us. www.ramblersholidays.co.uk has details of their holidays & for more details about The Walking Partnership visit www.thewalkingpartnership.org.uk
