Northumbria Region U3A

Until the eighties, when the boundaries were changed, we could have said that “Northumbria U3A Region includes Northumberland, Tyne & Wear, County Durham and part of North Yorkshire.”

But now, Tyne and Wear does not exist. As long ago as 1986 it was replaced by five unitary authorities (Newcastle, Gateshead, North Tyneside, South Tyneside and Sunderland). In addition there are four unitary authorities clustered around the Tees (Recar and Cleveland, Hartlepool, Middlesbrough, Stockton).

So perhaps it is easier to say we have members in U3As as far north as Berwick and as far south as Bedale!
