We held the first meeting of our new “foodie” group on Thursday 23rd June, and the seven members who came all agreed that it was a lovely session.
Our theme was Strawberries. We had a quiz – and learned, amongst other things, that strawberries are part of the rose family, the Chinese eat 41% of the entire world’s strawberry production, and that the Beatles’ “Strawberry Fields” was about a Children’s Home in Liverpool.
The main event, however, was tasting the food that some of us had brought: strawberry fool, pavlova, flapjacks, strawberry cake, and strawberries dipped in chocolate. Ley Holloway
We decided that the idea of having a monthly theme works well, so our next meeting in September will be a celebration of all things “apple”.
If you would like to bring something with you, that would be great – apples from the garden, something you have made with apples, or even just a memory of your grandma’s recipe for baked apples. But please don’t, however, feel obliged to bring anything; this group will work well with a mixture of sharing and sampling the variety of contributions.
(One thing we all learned for next time is to bring a Tupperware, as you won’t be leaving empty-handed!!)
Our next meeting will be on September 15th at 15.30 at Brookdale, Ilfracombe. Suggested contribution £2.
Please let Andrew know on xxx if you are coming. We’ll also be starting a WhatsApp group which will make it even easier.
