Garden Visits Conveners: Walter Daw and John Pickard
The Garden Visits group now has well over 30 members on the books.
The gardens of Hall and Higher Tippacott Farms, Brendon were well worth the journey we made for our May trip.
It is such a pity that so many of our members did not come!
National Gardens Scheme venues open especially for just our group and all proceeds from entry and teas go to charity. We do hope that as many people as possible will come to our next garden visit.
We were given a warm welcome by our hosts, Mr. and Mrs. Yewdall when we visited Little Webbery, near Bideford for our June excursion. The grade 2 listed Georgian house is set in mature gardens and lake covering over 2 acres, stuffed full of interesting and unusual plants in herbaceous borders and a walled garden. Roses and lavender in flower and Echiums over 8 feet tall were a highlight of our visit. We were treated to delicious tea and cake in the conservatory at the end of our afternoon in the gardens and everyone left having had a most enjoyable afternoon. A big thank you to all of you who attended. Don’t miss our next outing!
We are visiting Stone Farm, Alverdiscott Road, Bideford on Friday, 22nd July. We meet, as usual, at 2 p.m. Again, this garden is opening exclusively for our group.
Stone Farm is a 1 acre country garden with striking herbaceous borders, dry stone wall terracing, white garden, hot garden and dahlia beds. There are extensive fully organic vegetable gardens with polytunnels and a newly created ¼ acre walled garden, together with an orchard with traditional apples and pears. Entry is £4 per person. See you all there!
There is no garden visit planned for August but why not take a trip to RHS Rosemoor? There is a Filers day trip to Rosemoor on Friday, August 19th. See the Filers day trip entry in this newsletter pg 11 for more details.
If anyone needs a lift, send me an e-mail or post on the What’s App group. New members are welcome. Our contact details are above.
