This group is of interest to those who not only enjoy watching theatre and performance drawn from different genres, but also those who are keen to gain a deeper appreciation of the performances they see by discovering more about what it takes to mount a production, taking it ‘from the page to the stage’.
The group watches world class productions each month, drawn from the work of prestigious London and national theatres made available through National Theatre Live (screened at local cinemas) and NT at Home (streamed to your TV or laptop). This is in addition to attending local theatres and, for some of our group, theatres in London, Birmingham and Milton Keynes.
During the first half of each meeting the group discusses their responses to a production we have selected and watched prior to the meeting. Our discussions address not only the play and the acting, but also the technical and design elements. The second half of each meeting focuses on a particular aspect of mounting a production, exploring, for example, what it is that the director does, or how the designers go about their work.
The group meets monthly on the third Monday of the month at 2pm to 4pm at a members house. There is a cost involved in watching the Theatre productions for the cost of tickets to see live performances or a rental charge for those productions we watch on NT at Home.
