Public Speaking/Story Telling

Leader: Ray Hobby Tel:01604 491758

The group meets on the 3rd Monday of the month 10:30 – 12:30 at the Leaders home.

The Public Speaking and Storytelling Group …has predominantly concentrated on Storytelling …and this is going very well.

The group leader, Ray Hobby as – The Arnsby Storyteller and Mike Leonard, with his range of well-practised presentations - will show the reality of what can be achieved over the next few months in the public arena. Members have contributed some really interesting ideas, either by verse or prose, from malapropisms to swifties and much more …depending on their interest and aptitude, either for presentations or to simply have some fun. Indeed Bettyne, Judy and Joy have added a lot to our credibility and entertainment as well as the development of writing skills. The fun has often been so good that our intended 2 hour meeting has gone on far beyond that.

New members are always welcome. Please contact Ray Hobby for more information and to have an informal chat about possible personal and group development.

Stories, Metaphors, Anecdotes, Fables, Myths and Legends are used to develop the Storyteller’s art as a combination of - ‘Fun & Philosophy’ and ‘Wit & Wisdom’.

Storytelling is a form of Public Speaking and uses many common skills, hence the combination of the two subject areas. Members of the group will follow an innovative, yet sensible and sensitive development, much of which will be from the internet, which is rich in motivating and inspirational stories. They will also have the freedom to develop their own areas of interest and use their storytelling skills to test the results.

Research into the ancient stories in fables, myths and legends will move to medieval minstrels and Music Hall monologues as well as the lyrics in many beautiful songs, both old and new that in prose form can be the basis of effective contemporary Storytelling.
