The Aims Of The Group:
• To investigate and explore free software.
• Have fun with computing.
• To have a relevant programme. (Members decide what topics to cover.)
Free software can mean free of intellectual restrictions and / or doesn't cost anything. In this group we look at both.
There's amazing amount of free software out there which can help achieve things no matter what your interests are. Of course the beauty of free software solutions is that if you don’t like a particular program it's cost you nothing so you can always try something else!
a) Libre Office: this is an alternative to Microsoft Office.
b) Ubuntu: this is an alternative operating system to Windows.
The aim of our group is to explore free software and exchange our experiences. We are a mutual support and discussion group for people who choose to use free software whenever possible.
When we initially purchased computers, we may well have been encouraged to also buy well known proprietary products from Microsoft or Norton however there are often alternatives to these which are available at no cost. Our group looks at these alternatives.
The Group should appeal to anyone who likes to experiment and have fun with their computing, and this includes using other hardware such as the Raspberry Pi.
Please use the email link (top right) if you are interested in joining. We are always happy to welcome new members and new ideas.
