U3A Robot Constructor's Challenge 2020
Cannock Chase U3A writes: we are organising a day of challenges open to any U3A, where moving robot type constructions capable of being remotely or autonomously controlled are subjected to a series of challenges. The use of programmable devices such as Raspberry Pi or Arduino would be ideal, but not essential. We are hoping to hold the challenge day in the Midlands during September or October, so we need individuals or teams to register their interest now to give time for their build. This would be of interest to those probably in Science groupsand enjoy constructional projects. see leafelt opposite for more details.
Intergenerational technology research
This message has come from a researcher via U3A:
"My name is Veronica Pialorsi. I am a PhD student at the University of Salford.
In my PhD, I run research with ageing population and children with the aim to understand how to design usable and accessible technology for both those age groups.
The upcoming project will be particularly focused on intergenerational usage of technology and I am currently recruiting participants. I would like to engage with senior users and children together in creative and playful activities to generate unique concept ideas for new technologies aimed at an intergenerational cohort.
U3A members living in Salford or Manchester areas are invited to take part. Please contact me if this is of interest to you.

FREE PRESENTATION by the Army Engagement Team. They run presentations all over the country with the aim to promote a greater awareness and understanding of the British Army in wider society. One of the ways that we achieve this is by providing a team which visits interested parties to give a multi-media presentation entitled “Your Army”. The presentation lasts approximately 35 minutes and explains the Army’s role in support of the Government’s Defence Policy; how we train and prepare for operations world-wide; our capabilities; and some of the challenges we face today. The presentation is followed by an opportunity for the audience to ask any questions that they might have about the Army. The presentation has been very popular with the U3A groups throughout the UK, and is ideal for a monthly meeting. Our services are free of charge and we travel with everything we need, so all we ask is for a room in which to set up and an audience! We have a varied amount of days from March onwards this year, if you would like to arrange a presentation or have any questions please get in touch.Victoria Fox email firstname.lastname@example.org
