Newquay Community Orchard Stroll

Meet in the Sports Centre car park at that entrance to the Orchard

Tretherras Road, Yeomans Way, Newquay TR7 2SL

This Newquay Orchard 1 seemed to be a good place to start this interest group, as a lot of people do not even know of the Orchard’s existence. It is local, free to park and within a short walk of the Heron Centre, the Lanherne or Chester Road cafe for those who want to gather for a coffee afterwards. Unfortunately it is not actually on a bus route, but there are several bus stops within 10 minutes walk of the entrances. The Orchard can also be accessed on foot from two or three places along Trevenson Road, between Tretherras School and the Tip.

Our Newquay Orchard 7 first meeting there on 15th October was very successful. We were treated to a knowledgeable guided tour of the working areas and informed about future development plans. I can do this Community Orchard saunter another time as I walk there most days with my dog.

To Newquay Orchard 13 arrange another walk at Newquay Community Orchard please email Valerie, stating your name, membership number, contact telephone number, mornings of the week that you are free and which week of the month.

Health & Safety warning. Please be aware that the ground is uneven, especially around the entrance, you will need to wear sensible shoes. The whole area is unsuitable for wheelchairs.

Nature Study
There will be a voluntary fun Observation Quiz just to make your trip around the area a little more interesting. Bring your lunch if you feel like it. There are tables and benches here and there where you can sit.

Longer Walk
There are several pathways all the way round both sides of the allotments adjacent to the Orchard. Pathways to one side go around an empty "wildflower" field for those who want to walk a bit further, pathways to the other side of the allotments will be where we are wandering on our Nature Saunter, beyond the actual orchard area. Anyone wanting a longer walk can either do a circuit of those field areas around the Orchard, or there is a longer circular town walk starting and finishing at the Orchard, which is quite pleasant. Please email me for directions if you need them.

Directions by car from Trenance Gardens and Newquay Zoo:
Proceed past the Heron Centre towards the roundabout. Straight over into Hilgrove Road and pass the Lanherne on your left, following the road round the bend to the right. Take the first road on the right hand side, on the bend at the second set of bollards: Tretheras Road. Continue down Tretheras Road, past Towan Blystra Road on the right and Whitegate Road on the left. The road continues into a modern estate cul-de-sac just after the turn for Yeomans Way, where you will see the sports fields. The entrance to the Community Orchard is a gap in the hedgerows on the right hand side, after the speed bump and bend.

Directions by bus or on foot:
The nearest bus stop on the 85 or 87 is the bus stop near the Lanherne, in which case, follow directions by car above.

The nearest bus stop on the 25 would be at Towan Blistra Road corner (follow directions above) or the stop by the Youth Centre in Whitegate Road, from where you can walk into and across the sports field towards the sports centre.(You will see a farm gate entrance down a little cul-de-sac just a bit further down Whitegate Road.)

People arriving on buses that stop at the Whitegate Centre can follow the directions above across the sports fields or alight at Porth Four Turns and walk down Trevenson Road, past Tretherras School until they reach an entrance into the fields beyond the Orchard, either in the layby or down the little lane just past the school before you get to the layby. There is another entrance into the fields along Trevenson Road coming from the other direction, just past the tall wooden fence around the last house before you get to the Tip. This will take you towards the allotment area.
