Convenor: Steven Atkins
Meetings: Every Friday during Term time 10.00 - 11.15
We assume no prior knowledge of Spanish. This group focuses on using the language in everyday situations. It is ideal if you are going to Spain on holiday and want to get beyond the basics of Hola and Gracias! Indeed by joining this group you will be able to understand and answer questions on a wide range of topics such as meeting and greeting people, shopping for food, asking for directions, checking into a hotel, ordering food and drink, hobbies and interests and that is only the tip of the iceberg. Indeed there is much more so come along and find out.
This group is for those with no previous knowledge of Spanish. We aim to learn how to communicate and use the language in everyday situations. The structure of the group sessions will take us from the basics to a level whereby you should be able to ask and reply to a number of questions; and start forming our own sentences in Spanish. We will cover all four of the basic skills:
Listening and speaking, Reading and writing
So a typical session will involve us looking at vocabulary and the main sentences used in each dialogue. Here we can remind ourselves of key words and phrases. The next step will involve a look at the grammar section to show us how the language works. We will then want to practice what we have heard or read in each dialogue. This can be done word for word through a series of exercises both spoken and in the written form. We will cover a number of related topics in each meeting.
Whilst the group is primarily aimed at beginners it will also serve as a refresher for members who may have previously studied Spanish and who now wish to re-build their knowledge of the language.
