As advertised everywhere, group members are not required to learn lines.

Pooh, Road, and Practical Cats
After our successful Christmas Production the Drama group is now looking forward to Spring and Summer and planning for various possibilities. The Third Age Trust is planning a U3A DAY on 2 June 2021. This, I think, looks rather unlikely at present so the Drama group is making plans for another Zoom Production around Easter – date to be announced.

----- Our plans this time bring famous animal characters to life, characters from ‘Toad of Toad Hall’, ‘Winnie the Pooh’ and T S Elliot’s ‘Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats’.

For various reasons the number of members of the group has fallen recently so we are particularly looking for some new members. No experience is required and no one is expected to learn lines! All you need is two hours on a Tuesday morning and lots of enthusiasm.

To join us or to discuss our programme please get in touch by email or telephone.

The Digital Christmas Concert on Tuesday 22 December 2020 at 3.00pm

With the COOK-OFF FRIDAY group for the interval refreshments.

A Digital Christmas The Drama group performed its annual Christmas extravaganza which we have managed to put on Zoom this year. It is a collection of poetry and prose presented by eight of our members who are braving the new medium.
There are restrictions in the use of Zoom as a creative programme – it is wonderful for meetings and simple presentations but does not lend itself to Drama or Music. Still ... it went down very well.
LOOK AT THIS !!Here is a short selection of moments from the Show, followed by the Cook Off Friday presentation.

Our group is steadily growing but we have plenty of space for those with a secret desire to 'tread the boards'.

15th June 2020

Hello Folks,

Here are two radio plays that I thought we could look at during our forth-coming Zoom session. They are both very long so I should focus on the first 10 pages or so. To Hull and Back has a smaller cast, mostly women, while Welcome to our Village has a much larger cast – I have indicated how the parts might be doubled up.

I have no idea how many people might join the Zoom session, so it will be a bit of a hit and miss session. We probably will only get 40 minutes, although I have discovered how to subvert the system!

Hoping to see you on line on 23 June at 10.00am.

Tim

Meanwhile ….

The U3A Drama Group had just begun some work on CATS by TS Eliot, when the lockdown began. We had been – and still are – intending to incorporate some of the poems into our annual December show. (Who knows if that show will happen.) This original poem written by Richard Clarkson may well be presented as the finale. see Rhythm & Rhyme Group Anthology ASKEW – THE COARSE-ACTING CAT
