CAMERA GROUP

Due to Covid-19 restrictions all indoor U3A meetings in person are currently suspended until further notice
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The meetings of the camera group continue to be suspended until further notice, due to the covid-19 pandemic. We are now running online monthly competitions, so we are still in business!

Our website results for recent competitions are as below:-

The subject for March 2021 was ‘Street Scene’. The winner was Geoff Jones, with ‘Canterbury Centre’. There were joint runners-up: Barry Coles – ‘Tour de France Cambridge’ and Gordon Duthie ‘Day-to-Day life in Khan el-Khalili’. Congratulations to everyone. I think that again this month members managed to submit a varied selection, and it was great to see 33 entries.

Our subject for April was ‘Reflections’. Congratulations for the winning picture go to Kath Gifkins, with ‘Eltham Palace River Walk’. There were 3 joint runners up photos; Gwen Dixon with ‘Chippenham Park,’ Pam Melbourne with ‘Bridge of Sighs’, and John Herring with ‘Lode Mill’.

Whilst we have been restricted from going anywhere much to take new photos, members have submitted a strong selection each month. The practice of ‘mining’ our digital photo collections to find candidates can help us to improve our photography. We get to reconsider what works and what does not in a way not always possible at the time the photo was freshly taken. The posh term for this is ‘reflective practice’ – fitting last month’s theme.

Now the clocks have changed and COVID-19 restrictions are easing somewhat, there is more scope for members to add new photos to their collections. The subject for the May competition will be ‘Garden Wildlife’.
.

Details are sent by email to camera group members before the end of the month - other U3A members who are interested in joining our group can contact the Co-ordinator any time by telephone so that you will be able to enter our monthly competitions.

New members are always welcome to the Camera Group, no specialist photographic knowledge or a fancy camera required! All that is needed is the desire to enjoy your photography and make friends. Tea/coffee is included free at our meetings.

The aim of the group is to share members’ photographs and promote improved photography through discussion.

Normally we meet at Tesco Community Room on the first Monday of the month at 2.30pm. We have a very good attendance generally of about 16 to 18 members.
