HISTORY OF SCIENCE
We are delighted to announce that Alison Giles, who is a familiar figure to our French Conversation Group, will be leading a new U3A Group, 'The History of Science'. She is in charge of education at Burwell Museum and also at the Whipple History of Science Museum in Cambridge.
No doubt you will wish to join her in her Zoom meetings, to be held at 11.30 am on the second Wednesday of the month in this exciting new opportunity.
She will select a different instrument each month to give its history and development, eg Darwin's microscope, sunshine recording or the earthquake model.
Her talks will be followed by questions and answers. Contact Alison for a link to join future meetings.
The Group is taking a break in August, and then we will be meeting at the Whipple Museum for a one-off visit at 11.30 a.m. on Wednesday 15 September. (Please note that this is the third Wednesday rather than the second, due to having other commitments during the previous week). Details for the visit will be available closer to the date.
We will then return to Zoom and to 11.30 a.m. on the second Wednesday of every month to look at a new selection of objects. New members are always welcome, please email Alison on firstname.lastname@example.org to be added to the list.
We are looking for requests – you can search the museum collections using the link below. Please let Alison know if there is anything which particularly interests you.
