Civilisations and Society
At our Christmas meeting, we enjoyed a programme of music, readings, poems and a few carols, in St Mary's Church, Shaw, - for our annual Xmas get-together. Mulled wine and mince pies were served in the Church Hall afterwards. Colin was an amazingly good MC - as the photos show! And all of the readings were extremely entertaining and kept us very amused.
The Group enjoys talks on a wide variety of subjects (including politics of the Middle East, a talk on Colour, Nobel prize winners, the Herschel family (including first paid woman scientist in 1700s) – followed by questions/discussion, and preceded by tea/coffee/biscuits.
Our next meeting, on Monday 20th May, will be by Stuart Maughan from the National Trust.
He is the Manager of THE VINE and will be telling us about it's history and the mammoth task of restoring it's roof.
We are currently full at the moment but you are welcome to leave your name with us for future reference.
- When: Third Monday of the month, 10.00 for 10.30 a.m.
