Architecture and Design
The Architecture and Design group meets on the 2nd Tuesday of the month at 10.30 am at Williams Court. Each month Joe Rielly gives an illustrated talk which covers a movement in the history of architecture and design, ranging from the late 19th century to the 21st century. No prior knowledge is required and the intention is to examine the role architecture plays in the built environment we all live in. We all use buildings every day, they are an important part of our lives, but most of us never give them much thought. A good building can affect us in good ways and a bad building can have a negative affect on us. The interior of a building reflects the needs and culture of its users. We examine these and other issues as well as the work of individual architects.
A lively question session follows after most talks, and sometimes reveals areas not covered; but it is not possible in an hour to do justice to such a wide ranging subject. Wherever possible technical jargon is avoided, and explained when unavoidable. The attendance ranges between about 12 and 27 members and there is always room for more so please come along for a 'taster'!
