This group started in autumn 2019 and is a great success. While some of the members have been doing crosswords for years, others have been complete beginners. Two groups of eight people each meet twice a month for an hour, on the 2nd and 4th Thursday mornings at Juliet's house. We look at different types of crossword, reference sources and different compilers; and go on to do puzzles of increasing complexity, learning how clues are constructed, how to recognise and understand different types of clue and strategies for completing them. Each session we do a couple of crosswords together, usually from The Times although the leader hopes to move on in due course to even more difficult formats such as the monthly Guardian 'genius' crossword. While this group is full at the moment, we keep a waiting list which you are welcome to join whether you are an experienced 'cruciverbalist' or a complete beginner, and introduce new members as more experienced ones decide to launch out on their own.
