Cryptic Crosswords
This group is led by Juliet Burgess. We have two sessions a month on Thursday mornings for both beginners and more experienced cruciverbalists - some of whom were complete beginners when they started.
We look at different types of crossword, reference sources and different compilers; and go on to do puzzles of increasing complexity, learning how clues are constructed, how to recognise and understand different types of clue and strategies for completing them. Each session we do a couple of crosswords together, usually from The Times although we hope to move on in due course to even more difficult formats such as the monthly Guardian 'genius' crossword.
