Classics
This is a small group which meets every four weeks on Friday mornings in members’ houses. We look at classical studies in the broadest sense, covering history, archaeology and literature. Sessions are introduced by members and lead on to interesting discussions. So far we have covered topics such as a timeline of the classical era, the Punic wars and Hannibal, Roman remains in Trier (Germany), the rise of the Olympians in pre-classical Greece, Ovid, democracy in Athens, and the Vindolanda tablets near Hadrian’s Wall. In the future we may also go to museums and places of interest in the area.
