We are a friendly group who come together to discuss philosophical issues. We've found it helpful to watch a lecture or talk, of which there are many now available online, as a stimulus to debate and conversation. We've worked our way through several MOOC courses from the University of Edinburgh on Science, Religion and Philosophy and the Michael Sandel "Justice" series on moral and political philosophy. We've also looked at metaphysics, epistemology and cognitive science of religion.
We're currently inviting members to choose particular philosophers or philosophical topics and to find online or library resources which illustrate them. We've covered Hegel, Marx, Kierkegaard, Nietzsche and Existentialism and have recently decided to watch the Bryan Magee "Great Philosophers" series starting with Plato.
We normally meet on the third Thursday of each month in members homes' and new members are always welcome. No previous knowledge of philosophy is necessary just a lively interest. We often have interesting digressions and sometimes disagree but we all very much welcome each other's contributions.
