Melodic Ukulele
The ukulele is an excellent instrument to accompany singing, but it can also be used to play tunes. When there are several ukes playing different musical lines, it can sound surprisingly good.
This group was set up following two six session courses which taught members the fundamentals of melodic uke, including reading TAB and understanding the basics of standard notation. The materials used on the course can be found by following the link of the right.
We aim to continue playing and learning a variety of pieces that broadly fall into these types:
- Single melody line with simple chord accompaniment
- Single melody line with arpeggio accompaniment
- Multi-part melody/harmony lines with various types of accompaniments
- Canon
- Solo (melody and harmony played together)
The group meets at Pinefields Community Room, Much Wenlock. We do have capacity for more members. It would be helpful, but not essential, if you have either completed the melodic ukulele course run by this u3a or you can already read TAB and play a simple melody line. If not, we can help you get started.
