Philosophy

The Philosophy group is re-starting on Wednesday 1st February. We plan to resume our pre-covid meeting times of the 1st Wednesday of each month (September to June inclusive, but see below).

Each meeting will be planned to run from 2.15pm to no later than 4.00pm. Meetings are currently held in The Snug, McBoyle Hall, Portknockie.

Currently this group has no formal leader but John Mills is acting as caretaker.
It is expected that, as a "self help group" different members will take turns in leading the meetings. There is a U3A Philosophy "WhatsApp" Group which was used to communicate with others in the group during lockdown.

There was a comprehensive list of files and documents which detailed the topics covered since the group started in 2012. Unfortunately, his was "lost" when U3A HQ changed the provider to host their "Sitebuilder" software. Some files have since been replaced.

Please get in touch if you are interested in this group; use the "Click to Send a Message" facility on the top right of this page.

Thanks to those members who turned up and contributed to the active discussions on "Right and Wrong" on Wednesday 1st February. Thanks also to those members who turned up for the session on Euthanasia on Wednesday 1st March. This time there were no Technical Gremlins and the PowerPoint ran on the big screen perfectly. We had some really interesting discussions on this very interesting, but difficult, topic.

Wednesday 5th April

The meeting of the Philosophy Group planned for Wednesday, 5th April at 2:15 p.m. in the Snug of the McBoyle Hall, Portknockie, has been cancelled due to family reasons.

Wednesday 3rd May

The next meeting of the Philosophy Group will be on Wednesday, 3rd May at 2:15 p.m. in the Snug of the McBoyle Hall, Portknockie. The subject area under discussion will be Politics and Philosophy. The presentation will be based on Nigel Warburton's book, "Philosophy - the basics" pages 67 to 90 inclusive.

Information about the Philosophy Library can be accessed on the right of this page. Group members are able to print from these pdf files if desired.
