Moor`s Edge

The Walking Group

Starting from February 2020 there is now a new programme of walks planned for the 3rd Wednesday of the month. Each walk will be led by a named member of the group. Please see either dates for your diary below or the events page for the monthly walk details.

February Walk

Feb 20202 Fifteen of the group met for our first walk of the New year and were blessed with dry weather for our hour long walk around Central Park. We were glad to see spring flowers :-crocus , primroses, snowdrops and catkins. There were remarkable large wood carvings alongside a lower path. For some of the group the extent of the park came as pleasant surprise and for others happy memories surfaced. The walk was completed with hot drinks and snacks and a lot of chatter at the café in the park .

September Walk

Nine members walked the route of the Tavistock Canal in beautiful sunshine. We were very appreciative of the trees that gave us some welcome shade. Thanks to Geoff for leading us on a walk completely unknown to many of us, despite it being almost on our doorstep.

June Walk

Due to various commitments only two Members made the June Walk and, despite a wet start to the morning, enjoyed a very pleasant day.

Using public transport we took in Jennycliff (including lunch) and Mountbatten, and then took the water ferry over to the Barbican. We continued around to the Terrace cafe for refreshments and then came across filming of the Sky tv programme 'Landscape Artist of the Year' on the Hoe.

Look out for us when the programme is televised - you never know!

May Walk

Because of roadworks at Noss Mayo the walk was changed. 9 of us walked from the dam at Burrator down the valley to Meavy village up through the woods to the village of Sheepstor and back along by the reservoir. A beautiful day and a very pleasant walk despite all the many challenging stiles to climb over!

On all walks - Please bring something to drink and for your own safety please wear suitable walking shoes/boots. Many of us find walking sticks useful too.

If you car share please consider a donation for your driver.
