Membership Latest May 2020

Subscription renewals. Please renew your subscription by the end of June 2020.

Please pay either by cheque or by online bank transfer. For online transfers the sort code is 30-95-66 and the account number is 24579768. Use your name(s) as the reference. Then email the Treasurer - (pettit.nic@gmail.com) - saying you have paid (with both names if a joint membership), how much (see below) and on what date.

If paying by cheque please make the payee Minehead & District U3A.
Send it to our U3A Treasurer, Nic Pettit, 81 Parkhouse Road, Minehead TA24 8AE. Please write clearly on the back of the cheque the name and membership number (if known) of each member you're paying for. Include your membership number if known.

How much to pay?
• Individual subscription £12.00 (newsletter by email)
• Individual subscription with printed newsletter £19.00 (that is, including £7 for the printed newsletter)
• Joint subscription (2 people at same address) £24.00 (newsletter by email to both)
• Joint subscription with (one) printed newsletter £31.00

No renewal form is needed, and there is no membership card for 2020/2021. There is no renewal form to complete, which is why you need to ensure that the Treasurer knows you have paid! You will receive confirmation of your renewal by email (or in the post for members without email) within two weeks of payment. Please retain your membership receipt as we are no longer issuing membership cards.

News April 2020
It may appear that U3A activities are completely suspended during the Coronavirus emergency but this is far from the case, as we are developing greater expertise in meeting 'virtually'. If you need help getting online or using computers, tablets or smart phones, other members are on hand to help.

IT Champions
We are a group of individuals with IT experience, who are willing to act as your first point of contact for ANY IT-related problem or question − for ANY U3A member. You can email your question to ITChampionsMinehead@gmail.com [or use the Contacts page] and a champion will be assigned to your case. Initially we will be inviting members to join WhatsApp for group chat and video conferencing, if they wish, and we will be looking at setting members up on Zoom (videoconferencing). Zoom can be very useful in this respect, as we can share screens − allowing the champion to look at your screen and hopefully analyse a problem, and enabling the champion to share their screen to give a small tutorial on how to use a specific feature that may be useful.

Your 2019/2020 subscription is now valid until 30th June 2020, with a grace period until the end of July. If you do not renew by August, you will not receive the newsletter and you will be no longer eligible to attend interest group meetings.

Please note that to save postage costs, committee members and other volunteers hand deliver as many membership cards and receipts as possible, so you may have to wait a little while to receive them if you haven't collected them at a coffee morning. Alternatively, if you're posting your application, for speed of delivery you may like to include a stamped self-addressed envelope with your form and cheque.

Subscription rates
For the subscription year 2020/2021 our annual subscription remains at £12, which is the same rate as for 2017/18, and 2019/20 so represents a wonderful bargain! The subscription includes the newsletter by email, but if you prefer to receive a printed newsletter rather than the email edition, there is an additional cost of £7.

Gift Aid helps us to keep the fees down, so if you’ve not yet signed up for Gift Aid but are a taxpayer and would like us to claim Gift Aid from HMRC, please complete the relevant part of the application form.
Once a member, you can join as many interest groups as you like. (NB Some groups do incur small extra charges, e.g. towards room hire).

Your subscription includes a monthly (well, 10 times per year) newsletter. This is sent as an email attachment unless you wish to subscribe to a printed copy (see membership form for the additional cost). All members are also sent Third Age Matters, the national U3A magazine 4 times a year.

The newsletter contains details of interest groups and who to contact to join them. Many members pick up their print newsletter at the coffee morning and we have a team of 'postmen' who hand-deliver around their home area and this helps to save on postage costs. If you could help us in this way, please speak to Alison or Margaret, the newsletter editors: you can usually find them in the entrance hall at coffee mornings.
