Minehead & District

Groups

Scroll down to see a list of groups currently run by Minehead & District U3A. The dates and times given are those that usually apply, but may change. If you would like to join a group, please enquire via the Contact page or, if you are a member, use the contact details on pages 7–8 in the monthly newsletter.

There are opportunities to form new groups reflecting new interests – if you'd like to discuss this, please speak to Helen, the Groups Coordinator, use the Contact page or talk to a member of the committee at a coffee morning.

Latest update

This January sees a new tool available to all Minehead U3A members – an electronic calendar showing all group meetings in an active view that can be seen on our website – Minehead calendar. And it is not limited to the website – we will be adding it to the Facebook presence, and if wanted, each member can add it to their tablet or smartphone as an app. More on this development soon!

ART LOVERS Group designed for art lovers Pam Young is planning to set up a friendly and relaxed group for those who love art, whether as an artist or photographer, or simply enjoying any form of art. You can play an active role by preparing a talk on a particular artist or art form, introducing a topic or bringing along an appropriate piece of art for discussion, whether made by you, by someone close to you or by an artist you like. You may just enjoy listening to others talking about art. There would be some visits – especially during Somerset art weeks – and Pam also intends to invite some local artists to come along to talk about their work. If you would be interested in joining the group, please contact Pam Contact or, if you’re not on email, in the first instance please contact any committee member, who will pass on your message to Pam.

More New Groups A Mah Jong beginners group will be starting at Willow Grove Community Hall, Washford, 2.30 pm to 4.30 pm, on 17 February. It will then run on the 1st and 3rd Mondays of the month. Book Group 6 is a new group, in which you read and then discuss whatever book you want. It will be starting at Stogumber Community Hall in Deane Close at 2.30 pm on 20 February and will continue at that time every 3rd Thursday of the month. If you are interested in joining either of these groups or would like more details, please email Pam Young

A Conversation Café in Williton
Working with the influence of Aristotle and Alfred Adler in terms of what creates a good community, you are invited to participate in a Conversation Café where together we can explore what constitutes a community, who is in our community and how we would like it to be.

Aristotle says we can’t become truly happy unless and until we apply the fruits of our personal self-development to meeting the needs of others. As we each must find our own route to what the Ancient calls the highest good of self-realisation, we also have to choose our own path to the complete good of using our knowledge, skills and wisdom to the benefit of our communities, workplaces, nations and perhaps even to humanity.
James O’Toole, Creating the Good Life
