Bus Safari

For 2019 we are introducing a programme of Bus Safaris. These offer a relaxed day out with fellow travellers from the U3A and using your bus pass, they are absolutely free! The trips will be led by Philip Watts, who previously ran our Coach Outings.

All trips will be on Wednesdays. For further information contact Philip Watts, the Bus Safari Group Leader.

We would like to keep the booking system for these bus safaris as simple as possible - for both those travelling and the organisers. However, we do need to know who is coming for two reasons. First - bus capacity. (Think - if only half the U3A members wanted to go we would need 3 double deckers!) and some of the buses are quite small. Secondly, to let you know if the trip is cancelled due to bad weather.

If you would like to come on a trip, please let us know at least two weeks before the trip (first come first served as numbers are limited to 18). Ideally and much preferably, send an email by clicking on Bus Safari Group Leader. Please include your name, address and phone number. We will send full information and the itinerary. Also please keep an eye on your email for any further information. Should we need to cancel due to bad weather, we will email on the day before the trip.

Dates for your Diary
Wed Sep 18th Visit to Emsworth

Following the success of our first two bus safaris we will be going to Emsworth for the last one of the summer. We leave on the 60 bus at 11 02 from Midhurst Bus Station or any other stop of your choice. We will return to Midhurst at 16 57.

Emsworth has a wonderful historic harbour with many walks – long or short – and you should be able to see the sea minutes after getting off the bus in the town square. Emsworth also has a fair range of interesting small shops and a Georgian section with stunning architecture.

One thing that has worked well on the previous trips is to lunch together and if you would like to join this, it will need to be booked. The lunch will be at The Coal Exchange, an award-winning traditional pub. Please let me know if you will join us for lunch and also if you would like to pre-book Fish and Chips (£9.75)

After lunch, we have arranged a special opening of the wonderful Emsworth Museum which offers a fascinating glimpse into the history of this ancient port. It is one of the smallest museums to be fully accredited by the Arts Council and exhibits cover such diverse areas as oyster fishing and P G Woodhouse who lived locally.

We would like to keep the booking system for these bus safaris as simple as possible – for both those travelling and the organisers. However, we do need to know who is coming for two reasons. First – bus capacity. (Think – if only half the U3A members wanted to go we would need 3 double deckers). Secondly, to let you know in the unlikely event that the trip has to be cancelled due to bad weather.

If you would like to come on this trip, please let us know at least two weeks before the trip (first come first served as numbers are limited to 20) by clicking on Bus Safari Group Leader. And don’t forget to say if you will join us for lunch and want fish and chips? Otherwise the pub has a good range of salads, baguettes, etc.

Please include your name, address and phone number. We will send full information and the itinerary. Also please keep an eye on your email for any further info and should we need to cancel due to weather, in which case we will email by 6 00pm on the day before the trip.
