Bus Safari

For 2019 we are introducing a programme of Bus Safaris. These offer a relaxed day out with fellow travellers from the U3A and using your bus pass, they are absolutely free! The trips will be led by Philip Watts, who previously ran our Coach Outings.

All trips will be on Wednesdays. For further information contact Philip Watts, the Bus Safari Group Leader.

We would like to keep the booking system for these bus safaris as simple as possible - for both those travelling and the organisers. However, we do need to know who is coming for two reasons. First - bus capacity. (Think - if only half the U3A members wanted to go we would need 3 double deckers!) and some of the buses are quite small. Secondly, to let you know if the trip is cancelled due to bad weather.

If you would like to come on a trip, please let us know at least two weeks before the trip (first come first served as numbers are limited to 18). Ideally and much preferably, send an email by clicking on Bus Safari Group Leader. Please include your name, address and phone number. We will send full information and the itinerary. Also please keep an eye on your email for any further information. Should we need to cancel due to bad weather, we will email on the day before the trip.

Dates for your Diary
Wed Apr 15th Bus Safari to Jane Austen’s house in Chawton

Following the success of our introductory safaris last year our first trip this year will be Jane Austen’s House and Museum in Chawton. Entry is £8 or £4.50 for Art Fund cardholders. (Should you have visited this recently there is also Chawton House nearby) .

Jane Austen's House Museum in Hampshire is the only house where Jane Austen lived and wrote that is open to the public. It is the most treasured Austen site in the world. It was in this country cottage that Jane's genius flourished and where she wrote all her novels, including the timeless Pride and Prejudice.

We leave on the 92 bus at 11:15 from Midhurst Bus Station or any other stop of your choice. We will return to Midhurst at 17:36.

We would like to keep the booking system for these bus safaris as simple as possible – for both those travelling and the organisers. However, we do need to know who is coming for two reasons. First – bus capacity. (Think – if only half the U3A members wanted to go we would need 3 double deckers). Secondly, to let you know in the unlikely event that the trip has to be cancelled due to bad weather.

One thing that has worked well on the previous trips is to lunch together and if you would like to join this, it will need to be booked. (The Greyfriar pub is right opposite the Museum). Please choose from the following:

Mains: Sweet potato, cauliflower and chickpea curry £14.00, Beer Battered Fish and Chips, £14.50, Chicken supreme with pancetta and potato fondant £16.50 or Greyfriar cheeseburger £14.00

Desserts (if wanted): Sticky toffee pudding £6.50, Dark chocolate ganache £7.00, Bruleed lemon tart £7.00

When we get back to Petersfield there will be time for tea – this also needs to be reserved so please let me know.

If you would like to come on this trip, please let us know as soon as possible but at least two weeks before the trip (first come first served as numbers are strictly limited to 18)

Send an message headed Chawton Trip by clicking on Bus Safari Group Leader.
Please include your name, address and phone number. Also meal choice and whether you would like a cup of tea in Petersfield on the way back?

Please keep an eye on your email for any further info and should we need to cancel due to weather, in which case we will email by 6pm on the day before the trip.
