Mid-Northumberland

More About Us

“U3A is an organisation of men and women who regularly gather together to share their experiences, knowledge, philosophies, values and ideas. They learn from each other”.

Background
The Mid-Northumberland branch of the U3A (University of the Third Age) was started in 2007. Our current membership is around 269.

We are a member of the Northumbria Region of U3A, an association of the 50 individual U3A groups in Northumberland, Durham and Northern Yorkshire which has a website (see the Link on the WELCOME page) and a newsletter (The Messenger) which can be accessed via the site map page on that site.

Location
Longhirst is a small village some 3 miles north east of Morpeth, and its well equipped village hall provides a convenient and accessible headquarters. There is handy parking in front of and behind the hall for a dozen or so cars and extra parking is available in the village alongside the church. The X18 bus service (between Morpeth and Alnwick/Berwick upon Tweed) runs past the hall every hour.

A map of the location of the village hall can be seen here. The Postcode is NE61 3LX. The village itself has a website.

Several of the activity groups meet in the village hall. Many others meet in members’ homes, local pubs, etc.

Fees
The membership fee for 2018-2019 is £10.00 and £6.50 as an associate, if also a member of another U3A to whom you pay a full sub, for the year which runs from September to August; less for a partial year. Of this, £3.50 is sent to the National Office of the U3A Trust in Bromley and covers insurance for all U3A activities and a quarterly magazine for all members.

Information about the free U3A Legal Assistance Helpline can be found here.

Activity Groups
At the time of writing we have around 34 activity groups. Please see the GROUPS page for further details.

What We Do
