There might be many reasons for pursuing an interest in Classical Greek:

  • fond memories from childhood of myths and legends
  • a desire to rekindle enthusiasms first stirred in school some decades ago
  • seeking to make sense of the modern world through the less cluttered ideas of the past
  • PURE CURIOSITY!

And there is every reason to be curious about a people who in a very short historical period invented and/or developed:

  • democracy and philosophy
  • science and medicine
  • art and architecture
  • maths and astronomy
  • theatre and sport
  • civics and agriculture..... one could (and some do) go on!

Because language is the medium for thought, we believe we get a bit closer to these cultural giants through their language. In the process, of course, we consider and discuss ancient Greek achievement in the much broader context. And all this for....pleasure! So if you are interested come and see how it works. It would help if you knew the alphabet and some rudimentaries of the language - but it would be very un-Greek to let mere ignorance stand in the way of learning.
