We have just embarked on Woods and Forests, the penultimate section of A Poet’s Guide to Britain, by Owen Sheers. So far the experience of the anthology has been pleasurable and educative at several levels. In the section just completed we read poetry by well-known poets, but the section also contained poetry by less well-known writers, some in translation from Welsh and earlier forms of English. The new section has work by a wide variety of poets and we look forward to reading it. Sometimes, we feel, in an effort to be inclusive, Sheers has included poems whose merit is difficult to appreciate. but the journey in poetry continues to be interesting and lively, Carole Alderton.
