Ever thought you could learn a new skill and really enjoy it?

The U3A Croquet Regulars meet on Wednesday mornings on the Meldreth Croquet Club’s lawn which is behind the British Queen pub in Meldreth. This is a fantastic lawn, maintained by the club, and is situated in the most pleasant of surroundings. All equipment is provided. All you need is a pair of relatively flat shoes (and the green fee of £3 a session)!

The U3A club plays Golf Croquet which is the most social and the most rapidly growing of all the croquet versions. We also play with a definite bias for enjoyment and most games are with partners, so there is always someone on your side.

If you have never played the game, you will find it is a discovery worth making. It has that pleasant mix of tactics and skills that provides a challenge, and keeps you playing. And the way we play it - it is fun, you will be laughing too! It is also a skill for a lifetime. Nationally, some are still playing in their nineties!

We meet weekly from late April until the end of September. Every so often, when we are outside pandemic restrictions, we enjoy a lunch together at the British Queen pub and, if weather permits, we will also enjoy a sort of croquet picnic beside the lawn in the high summer.

To join the U3A regulars, you will either need to have played Golf Croquet before, or have completed a beginners course that we run once a year in conjunction with Meldreth Croquet Club - further details are available from the group leader.

Contact the Group Leader if you would like to know more about what we do. See also the Melbourn & District U3A Newsletter for late breaking news.
