1. 15th September - Philip Caine "From Barrow to Baghdad and back again"

2. 20th October - Tim Forman - "Twenty Amusing years in Sales and Marketing"

Talk 1: Philip has written a number of adventure novels based on his experiences, he is on his 8th novel at the moment!

Born in Barrow in Furness, in the North of England, Philip's working life began in the hotel business.

Ten years later he took a position working on offshore oil rigs in the North Sea and began a career that spanned over thirty years operating projects across three continents.

The end of the Iraq War in 2003 took Philip to Baghdad, where he directed the operations and project management of multiple accommodation bases for the American Coalition. This being the most challenging, hazardous & demanding of locations which required him to provide and deliver full support for over 30,000 troops on nine separate locations throughout Baghdad and Northern Iraq. Signing up for an original six month contract, Philip ending up working the project for almost seven years.

His career culminated in the Emirates where he ran a couple of oil services companies in Dubai, Qatar & Kuwait.

After working all over the world Philip returned to Barrow where he now lives with his family. He began writing after retirement in 2015 and his fist novel, PICNIC IN IRAQ, was published in summer 2015.

Talk 2: Tim Forman is Managing Director of Tim Forman Consulting Limited, a training, coaching, project management and sales development company founded by Tim in 2004 in Skipton, North Yorkshire.

Tim qualified as a teacher in 1982 and after a year as President of the Students Union he ‘fell’ into the world of sales and marketing with Endsleigh Insurance. This was quickly followed by a move to Legal and General where he spent the next 16 years in sales and then management roles. In 1999 he moved to Frizzells where he progressed to a position on the board as Assistant National Sales Director.

Made redundant at the end of 2002 he spent a year with the Skipton Group working on an acquisition and integration project before setting up his own company.

Tim is a regular speaker at events and dinners when conditions allow, and this year he has focussed on making his audiences laugh and smile through ZOOM and other video conference facilities. His stories are simple, funny and true!
