National Office have issued advice for Group Leaders regarding how to Restart Groups in a Covid Safe way - it can be accessed via the link on this page.
Members of the committee meet every Wednesday via Zoom to update each other and discuss ideas.
Our newsletter and quizzes have been well received. One member commented that these had been a 'lifeline' during the early days of the lockdown.
Group Pages are being updated and the Light Relief Extra Page also has some Group Information.
The Human Body are starting meetings via Zoom in September.
Speaker's Corner will be return in September, but via Zoom.
The Shakespeare Group is holding two Zoom sessions on Shakespeare’s History plays. 10.00a.m. on Mondays 10th and 24th August. Anyone wanting to join should contact Ray Waterhouse, details on their web page.
Watercolour Painting Group and Art Trips
They are in process of trying to organise the restart of my art class hopefully in mid September (or October) and also trying to reach-arrange a trip for later in the Autumn that should have taken place in May.
U3A Ukulele group (Ukes3A)
With the aid of ZOOM we have been meeting each week to carry on playing during the lock down, with as many as 16 people joining in the sessions. We have now moved to a two weekly meeting in a Wednesday evening. The excitement was too much to meet every week.
We have kept in regular touch throughout the lockdown. The leader asked members to email regularly saying how they’ve been keeping safe and busy by painting, gardening etc. and to submit picture attachments to emails showing their artistic output.
The leader has then collated all their emails and pictures onto a Bulletin which was sent out every 10-14 days or so. To date the leader has sent 9 Bulletins out.
It has been suggested to them that they do some painting on our normal Thursday mornings anyway so that collectively we have been painting and drawing together, albeit in our own homes rather than in MVH.
Everyone has missed the regular get together sessions and are itching to get back to normal again.
There will be no Poetry sessions this year. Hopefully to restart in January.
This group will not restart this Autumn, hoping that the next session will be in January.
Let’s Go Cycling
Our next ride is taking place on Thursday 16th July, meet at 10.30 outside Mawdesley Village Hall for a local ride. Please contact Carole on 01704 821228 for more details.
Who Let The Dogs Out?
The dog walking group will be taking the dogs out to Cuerdon Valley Park, Bamber Bridge, on Friday 4th September.
Meet at 9.30 a.m. in the main car park. For further details please contact Carole on 01704 821228. New dog walkers welcome!
Our next meeting is taking place on Wednesday 5th August. Due to restrictions on how many people from different households can currently meet up, we are full at present.
SPANISH LEVEL ONE
Our group has continued with practice in Spanish during the lockdown. They complete work set by Joan each week, and submit it to be checked by Tony. We have recently met at a social distance on the Millennium Green to distribute new books. Everyone is keen to meet up again when safe to do so, by which time the group deserves a new title as the members have progressed beyond the elementary stage.
Walkers are arranging between themselves to meet in small groups for local walks - whatever the weather! We are fortunate to have some beautiful countryside on our doorstep and over the last few months we have had the opportunity to observe the constantly changing landscape of our local farms.
Golfers are arranging amongst themselves to play - weather permitting of course.
Photograpy contine to meet via Skype on the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of the month and are planning a couple of outdoor photo shoots in the near future. Some members have submitted photos to the Art Group in order to prepare for our next Art and Photography exhibition.
Family History Research Group members have been writing articles which have been shared through a regular newsletter. Several are available through the link on the Group Page. They are currently planning a possible meeting in October, if Government regulations allow.
Shakespeare members have a Facebook page and are looking into the possibility of running a session via Zoom in the early autumn.
Gardening members have a WhatsApp Group where they can share tips and video clips. They are also arranging some 'socially distanced' garden visits in small groups.
Geology will hopefully start up again in the spring.
Archaeology members have received links to the Digventures website where there are some interesting video clips.
Subject to Government guidelines the Woodcarving group hope to restart their sessions on September 10th.
Members of the Family and Social History Group continue to keep in touch through their regular Round Robin, which includes news from members, updates on members' research, useful research suggestions and tips, pieces contributed by members and features from the collator.
This is by no means a complete list. Please share anything your group is doing.
More detailed information on each of our Groups is available below by selecting their name, but for an idea of the Trips and Talks that have been available click on the link to the right.
There may be times when a group is full. When this happens the Group Leader will usually keep a waiting list of members who are interested in joining, and contact them when there is room. If there are sufficient members wishing to join a group then a second, or third, or.. group may be formed if there is a member who volunteers to lead a new group. For example there are 4 Book Clubs.
If any Group Leader or member has an article that they would like to be considered for inclusion in the next U3A Newsletter then either contact the Newsletter Editor via the link on the Contacts page or email mawdesleyU3A@btinternet.com and your message will be passed to the Editor.
