Book Group B
I joined Marlow U3A Book Group B when it was started by Ron and Chris Carter in Flackwell Heath 11 years ago. When they moved out of the area I took it over and roped in my husband, David, who is now a member and helps me run it.
We meet at our house on the 2nd Monday in the month at 11 am. We have some fun discussions and take it in turns to review a book.
The members pay 50p for coffee and biscuits and when the money builds up I send it off to The Wycombe Homeless Connection.
We source our books from the Bucks Libraries Reading Group Sets which gives us 10 copies. We have just had notification from Buckinghamshire Libraries that in May they are going to start charging £25 a year to borrow from the Book Group Sets so I will collect £2.50 once a year to cover this charge which seems like good value and saves us a lot of hassle trying source 10 books via other means. I also like to think we are supporting the libraries,
Flackwell Heath library is now run by volunteers who are very active in arranging interesting talks on local history and also Bourne End have had some very good literary events which many of our members have attended.
We would be happy to welcome new members should a space become available but we are full at the moment.
