We meet once a month (except June) on the third Thursday morning, starting at 10.00am at the United Reformed Church in Oxford Road. There is a small fee to cover the costs of hiring the hall, providing refreshments and other expenses such as licence fees. We now have about 100 members, and the typical attendance at our meetings is about 55.
A meeting usually comprises two contrasting sessions of about 50 minutes each, separated by a coffee break. Sessions can be on any musical topic from the Renaissance to the present day. Our speakers and presenters are mainly from our own group, but we also frequently welcome guest presenters and performers.
From time to time we arrange visits with a musical theme. These have included day-trips to Hatchlands, Brentford Musical Museum, the Royal Festival Hall, the Royal Academy of Music, the Royal College of Music, the Bate Museum of Musical Instruments (Oxford), and concerto performances by young musicians who have performed at MAG.
