COVID-19 -- Due to the Government guidance that we should ALL avoid non-essential social contact and non-essential travel, all March u3a activities were suspended in March 2020. A new Committee was elected by electronic voting and Committee Meetings have been held when possible.
With the easing of restrictions some activities recommenced, though on a very limited basis and by observing strict social distancing procedures and following the latest advice. Since the current 'road map' was announced we are actively planning the resumption of March u3a activities whenever possible.
For current information on specific Groups please refer to the relevant Group page. The latest guidance from the Third Age Trust for the resumption of Group meetings can be viewed from the GROUPS page.
Enquiries can still be made through any of the links on the CONTACT page and will be answered in the normal manner.
WELCOME to MARCH u3a.
Are you Retired but not Retiring?
March u3a is an active and friendly organisation for retired and semi-retired people who share skills, interests, knowledge and hobbies. Some people join to learn something new, others enjoy the social interaction. Founded in December 2004 we now have over 300 members and over 50 special interest and social Groups.
We have Groups ranging from Art to Walking, Dressmaking to Poetry. Take a look at the Groups page. If there is no Group that takes your fancy let us know and perhaps we have other members who are interested in starting something new.
Our monthly meetings are held in the Main Hall, March Community Centre, 34 Station Road, March, PE15 9LH on the second Wednesday of each month from 2pm to 4pm (Doors open at 1:40pm). Do come along and see what we are all about before deciding whether or not to join us. You will be made most welcome.
These meetings bring together what is happening within the Groups and typically include an interesting presentation, often by a guest speaker (see Events). Annual membership is £15 and there is a fee of 50p to attend each main monthly meeting. Refreshments are normally provided at these meetings. Additional costs may apply to individual Groups.
March u3a is a self-funded, self-managed and democratic organisation registered by The Charity Commission and endorsed by the Third Age Trust of the u3a.
The u3a part of 'March u3a' historically stands for University of the Third Age. Not sure what this 'University' is all about?
FOR A START, IT IS NOT, AND HAS NEVER BEEN, A UNIVERSITY AS WE KNOW IT! - in the sense that we don't give out qualifications in the shape of degrees or anything like that. Neither do we ask for a certain level of qualifications before you can join us. University here is only really used in the sense of 'universal' or 'for all'. You can read lots more on the national UK u3a website.
If you are interested in joining March u3a you can find more information on the Join/renew page.
There you will find a Membership Application and Gift Aid form, our Constitution and our Data Protection and Privacy policies plus other useful information. These documents can all be downloaded and/or printed for your reference.
If you are still not sure why not come along to our monthly meeting and arrange a 'Taster Session' with a Group you may fancy.
