Mansfield & District

Welcome to Mansfield and District u3a

The u3a - The University of the Third Age - is an international organisation providing educational, cultural and social opportunities for people who are retired or not in full-time employment. It encourages groups of like-minded people in their Third Age to remain active in their retirement and to continue with lifelong learning for pleasure.

Mansfield u3a is a member of the u3a. It is a voluntary self-help organisation and in 2015, it was successful in becoming a Charity in its own right, Registered Charity No. 1164177, although still affiliated to the Third Age Trust (Reg. Charity No. 288007), the national parent body.

No qualifications are necessary to join - and none are given.

Mansfield & District u3a was launched in May 1999 to serve those parts of West Nottinghamshire within 8 - 9 miles of Mansfield. We now have over 275 members who pay an annual subscription to enjoy all the benefits of membership of this active and friendly organisation. In August 2019, we celebrated our 20th Anniversary.

We offer Mansfield and District seniors something to look forward to in retirement and a friendly way for them to enjoy it.

We can open the way for you to join in with continued learning at national summer schools and to participate in our interest groups where we co-operate for activities and hobbies.

Mansfield u3a's monthly meetings are held on the third Tuesday of each month (except August and December) from 10.00 am to about 12.15 pm at The 1861 Suite, Mansfield Town Football Club One Call Stadium, Quarry Lane, Mansfield NG18 5DA.

It has car parking, disabled access, a sound loop system to help members with impaired hearing and free wi-fi.

The Committee members and the interest/study group leaders always try to be available from 9.45am to greet their members before the meetings start, so this is a good opportunity to ask about their programme of meetings and events and to enquire about vacancies in any group that interests you. We run a book stall during the meeting where members can bring their used books for resale at 50p per book, magazines at 20p. The money raised enables the annual subscription to be kept at £17 per head for new members and £15 for existing members.

Our Interest Groups are only open to u3a members, so to enjoy what is on offer, please contact our Membership Secretary for the relevant information.

We also recognise the need for social interaction, and picnics, quizzes, lunches and other activities, including going on holidays together, are part and parcel of our u3a.

The webpages accessible from the Groups page are edited by the Group Leaders and sometimes spelling and/or grammatical errors creep in. If you spot an error please contact Terry or Bob, web editors, letting us know. Thank you.
