The Calligraphy Group meets at Marilyn Jones’s home twice a month on a Thursday from 10:00 am to 12:00 Noon. The dates will be agreed monthly by all the members.
Marilyn has been running a Calligraphy Group for three years. The remaining members have joined Mansfield U3A so that everyone will be together.
Mansfield U3A's Calligraphy Group will enable members to share knowledge and learn new Calligraphy styles beginning with Foundational Hand and later on Italics.
The class usually begins with a video (part of a course) each just lasting a few minutes covering different aspects of Calligraphy and families of letters, which can be practiced during the lesson.
Members can try out different pens, nibs, and inks initially that are in Marilyn’s stash, until they find what is suitable for them.
The group is always open to new suggestions according to members' interests and provides the opportunity to try out something new. Beginners as well as experienced Calligraphers are welcome.
A Facebook Group Calligraphy Capers has been set up especially for the Calligraphy Group. This enables members to get access to practice and tracing sheets, help and support whenever they need it between Group meetings.
Links to a OneDrive (Cloud Storage) folder is available where there is much more documentation and practice sheets that can be downloaded and printed out as and when required.
Members can source their own pens and other materials and a Treasurer has been appointed to keep track of any money when the members want to order materials collectively to share the costs (P&P and sometimes reductions when you buy more than one).
£1 cost for refreshments weekly for tea/coffee and home-made cakes. New Members should bring an A4 ruled or A4 Layout pad with them to practice on. There is some paper available if they forget.
The next meeting will be on 24th October and the miniscule letters d, b, p, and q will be covered. There are still some places available.
