Calligraphy

Postponed until after lockdown.

To keep in touch please use our Facebook Page Calligraphy Capers where you will still be supported with any outstanding or new projects that you want to start.

A new conservatory has been built recently and this will ensure that everyone has the best natural light possible.

The Calligraphy Group meets at Marilyn Jones’s home twice a month on a Thursday from 10:00 am to 12:00 Noon. The dates will be agreed monthly by all the members.

Marilyn has been running a Calligraphy Group for four years. The remaining members have joined Mansfield U3A so that everyone will be together.

Mansfield U3A's Calligraphy Group will enable members to share knowledge and learn new Calligraphy styles beginning with Foundational, and Italics Hands. The more intermediate members will be working on Uncial and Gothic Hands this year.

Learn the art of beautiful writing, beginning with Foundational Hand. Learn through practice, videos, and more practice. Usually twice monthly on dates to be agreed with the group, so there is flexibility. To start with bring along an A4 ruled pad, or an A4 Layout pad.... either is fine.

Members can try out different pens, nibs, and inks initially that are in Marilyn’s stash, until they find what is suitable for them.

The group is always open to new suggestions according to members' interests and provides the opportunity to try out something new. Beginners as well as experienced Calligraphers are welcome.

A Facebook Group Calligraphy Capers has been set up especially for the Calligraphy Group. This enables members to get access to practice and tracing sheets, help and support whenever they need it between Group meetings.

Links to a OneDrive (Cloud Storage) folder is available where there is much more documentation and practice sheets that can be downloaded and printed out as and when required.

Members can source their own pens and other materials and a Treasurer has been appointed to keep track of any money when the members want to order materials collectively to share the costs (P&P and sometimes reductions when you buy more than one).

February's dates are 6th and 27th and we will continue with the basics of Uncial hand.

For information of all activities, please go to the Events page.

£1 cost for refreshments weekly for tea/coffee and home-made cakes.
