Soft Tennis /Table Tennis
Soft Tennis is a really good way to exercise. It is played with tennis rackets and larger foam balls on a badminton court (with lowered nets). The rules of tennis still apply, but the game is slower and there is less distance to run (or gently move!).
Not only does it improve hand-eye coordination and fitness, but it's fun to play in a social group.
The group meets on the second and fourth Thursdays of the month from 2pm to 3pm at the River Maun Recreation Centre on Barringer Road, just off Ravensdale Road at the bottom by the double roundabout. There is car-parking opposite the centre.
Please contact Yvonne and Michael Kennison, who are the Group Leaders, if you are interested in coming along. No equipment needed and no special clothes, just a pair of trainers. Cost is £2 per session.
Some Good News to add - The River Maun Recreation Centre have been really helpful and they have given us the option of playing TABLE TENNIS as an alternative or along side the SOFT TENNIS if too many people turn up for the two courts which are available (which has happened on a few occasions). Therefore if you fancy table tennis instead of soft tennis, come along and join in. We have purchased some soft table tennis balls which should make the games a little gentler too.
PLEASE NOTE THAT OWING TO THE CURRENT SITUATION WHERE ALL OVER 70 YEAR OLDS HAVE BEEN ADVISED TO SELF ISOLATE FOR A FEW MONTHS, IT HAS BEEN DECIDED TO SUSPEND SOFT TENNIS FOR THE TIME BEING. WE WILL MONITOR THE SITUATION AND ADVISE MEMBERS OF THE GROUP WHEN THE SITUATION CHANGES. STAY HEALTHY ALL OF YOU MEANWHILE.
Once we are able to get back to normal, I am pleased to announce that we have been able to purchase an Indoor Curling Game (I have obtained a grant from Councillors Andy Sissons/Stephen Garner) and we are hoping to run a group alongside the Tennis for a trial period and if it takes off, it could become a group in its own right. Something to look forward to!
