The Mansfield U3A committee below was elected at the AGM on Tuesday 18 September 2018 to serve members until Tuesday 17 September 2019.
All committee members will do their best to help you take a full part in our activities and to guide you whenever you ask for assistance.
They will also welcome any suggestions or comments about Mansfield and District U3A before each monthly meeting and during the interval as one of our strengths is our dynamic membership.
You can contact them by phone using the numbers in your membership card or by using the contact buttons on the Contacts page.
Jacqui Hampshire Chair
I joined Mansfield U3A after a career in sales and after relocating from Norwich to Mansfield. I started the International Dining Group and the Mini Breaks Group and am also a member of Local History. Firmly believing that you only get as much out of an organisation as you are prepared to put in, I have now become Chair and hope that many more members follow that mantra.
Amanda Kingswell Vice-Chair and Membership
I am a fairly new member to U3A, having joined in March 2016. I enjoy the Tai Chi class and the Strollers group. I am also secretary to Mansfield Luncheon club and a committee member of Lindhurst WI. I’ve lived in Mansfield for 15 years after migrating up the country from Berkshire. Earlier, I worked as a secretary for several years before retraining to be a driving instructor and then starting my family.
Yvonne Kennison Treasurer.
I joined Mansfield U3A in 2013, have enjoyed the Writing for Pleasure group and have recently taken on the challenge of learning to play Bridge with my husband Michael. I also run the Soft Tennis Group with him. We took our first holiday with the U3A in April, cruising along the Danube. I'm an active member of St Philip Neri's Church.
Carole Harrison Secretary
I joined the U3A in November 2016 following retirement from various secretarial posts in the NHS. So far I have joined the Gardening Club which I enjoy and I am looking forward to joining other groups. Meanwhile, I volunteer at the Museum and St Phillips Primary School so I am kept busy!
Val Jeffries Speaker Finder -----
I joined Mansfield U3A in 2003 and am now on the committee as Speaker Finder. At the U3A, I help on the table for the Theatre and Afternoon Teas groups and go to the Gardening Group for relaxation!
Lynn Payne Groups Convenor and Safeguarding
I've lived in the Mansfield area all my life and went to school locally. I spent my working life as a commercial insurance broker.
My interests include reading, listening to soul music, walking and travelling around the world.
Sheila Pegg Asst. Treasurer
I joined in October 2014 and am enjoying meeting new people at the various groups. I am now semi-retired and a member of the Reading, Bridge, International Dining and Gardening groups. I also run the Solo Dining Group.
I am looking forward to trying Tai Chi and intend to join a walking group as soon as I can find the time!
Stephen Cooke Committee Member
After 10 years in Germany, where I ran one of the Forces’ cinemas (my dream job!), Sue and I came back to the UK last year to enjoy our retirement. Prior to leaving, I owned a second-hand book and record shop on Outram Street, Sutton-in-Ashfield for 16 years – a change from pharmacology research. When not putting the garden to rights, I listen to music, compile, solve crosswords and, if the weather is fine, take the MGB for a spin.
Jean Hatton Committee Member
I am a retired Local Government Officer. I have lived locally all my life having been in Mansfield for 37 years. I have been a member of U3A since 2015 and am a member of solo dining, international dining, cinema and theatre groups. I also enjoy the special trips and activities organised by other numerous groups.
Betty Robinson Committee Member
I moved to Mansfield from Sutton in Ashfield in 2014. Most of my working life was spent running my own business selling furniture. I joined Mansfield U3A in November 2015 and appreciate the variety of interest groups. I hope to rejoin the soft tennis this year and to try the Local History Group.
Philip Tucker Committee Member
I have been a U3A member for just a few months after many years working in trade union relations and the resolution of disputes. I then trained as a teacher of the Alexander Technique which I practised for 12 years before retiring. I am currently taking over as leader of the History group and am a member of a number of other groups including Tai Chi, Classical Music, Reading Book Club, and Writing for Pleasure.
