The Mansfield U3A committee below was elected by the A.G.M of 20th September 2017 to serve members until 19th September 2018.
All members will do their best to help you take a full part in our activities and to guide you whenever you ask for assistance.
They will also welcome any suggestions or comments about Mansfield and District U3A before each monthly meeting and during the interval as one of our strengths is our dynamic membership.
You can contact them by phone using the numbers in your membership card.
Sheila Whalley, Chairman of Mansfield U3A.
Chairman Sheila joined Mansfield U3A 8 years ago. She used to run her own business designing children's dresses and fancy costumes. She now does voluntary work for the Air Ambulance and opens her garden to raise money for the N.G.S. and other charities. She is on the Gardening Group committee and is Group Leader for Theater Visits and Afternoon Teas.
Jacqui Hampshire, Vice Chairman of Mansfield U3A.
Jacqui is a fairly new member after a career in sales and relocating from Norwich to Mansfield. She started the International Dining Group and is also a member of Local History. Firmly believing that you only get as much out of an organisation as you are prepared to put in, she wishes more members followed that mantra.
Mike Allen, Secretary of Mansfield U3A.
Secretary Mike has been a member of Mansfield U3A for eleven years and belongs to a number of interest groups, as well as leading Wine Group 2. He has had a number of roles on the Committee, including Chairman of Mansfield U3A, and currently edits our Newsletter. “U3A is a superb way of meeting other people and taking an active part in life after work," he says.
Yvonne Kennison, Treasurer of Mansfield U3A.
Treasurer Yvonne joined Mansfield U3A in 2013, has enjoyed the Writing for Pleasure group and has recently taken on the challenge of learning to play Bridge with her husband Michael. She also runs the Soft Tennis Group with her husband. They took their first holiday with the U3A in April, cruising along the Danube. She's an active member of St Philip Neri's Church.
Sheila Pegg Asst. Treasurer.
Sheila joined in October 2014 and is enjoying meeting new people at the various groups. She is semi-retired and is a member of the Reading, Bridge, International Dining and Gardening groups.
She is looking forward to trying Tai Chi and intends to join a walking group as soon as she can find the time!
Linda Leivers, Groups Coordinator of Mansfield U3A.
Groups Coordinator Linda joined our U3A five years ago after a career in law enforcement. She has been Group Cooordinator for three years and has helped to start many new groups in that time. Linda is also an active member of several groups. She is spokesperson for the Social Group and a website manager when time allows.
Marilyn Dibble, Membership Secretary of Mansfield U3A.
Membership Secretary Marilyn has been a member of Mansfield U3A for over 5 years and Speaker Finder for 3 years. She arranged the speaker diary up to the end of 2016 and has now moved on to the role of Membership Secretary. Marilyn was previously an adult education tutor and hopes to use her organisational experience in the new role.
Val Jeffries, Speaker Finder
I joined Mansfield U3A in 2003 and have joined the committee this year as Speaker Finder. In my working life I have been employed by Rolls-Royce, the CEGB and American Forces in Europe. My final job was with the Nottinghamshire Police as a file preparer. I used to breed pedigree CKCS dogs and helped my daughter in showing the breed. At the U3A, I help on the table for the Theatre and Afternoon Teas groups and go to the Gardening Group for relaxation!
Carole Harrison, Minutes Secretary
I joined the U3A in November 2016 following retirement from various secretarial posts in the NHS. So far I have only joined the Gardening Club which I enjoy and I am looking forward to joining other groups. Meanwhile, I volunteer at the Museum and St Phillips Primary School so I am kept busy!
Amanda Kingswell, Committee Member
I am a fairly new member to U3A, having joined in March 2016. I enjoy the Tai Chi class and the Strollers group. I am also secretary to Mansfield Luncheon club and a committee member of Lindhurst WI. I’ve lived in Mansfield for 15 years after migrating up the country from Berkshire. Earlier, I worked as a secretary for several years before retraining to be a driving instructor and then starting my family.
Alan Miller, Committee Member
I joined Mansfield U3A in 2009 and participate in the Sci-Tech, Tai-Chi, Strollers and Luncheon Club Groups. I have tried, and enjoyed, Art Appreciation, Bowls, Film Studies and Gardening and I can strongly recommend trying all the various groups in our U3A.
