I became a u3a member in 2021 and love the opportunities it has opened up for me. I am learning calligraphy, enjoy a regular debate with the Current Affairs Group, eat out with the Solo Dining members and enjoy chatting whilst walking with one of the walking groups.
Before retirement, I spent 36 years as a teacher, and can’t quite let go as I’m still involved with assessment in education.

In 2020 I retired from teaching English, drama and performing arts for 40 years; I loved being creative and working with youngsters. My husband Ted and I decided to join U3A in 2021. It was an excellent move as we’ve made so many new friends and attended so many excellent events. I’ve loved my role as Chair of the Social committee as the seven other members are very supportive and hard-working.

I joined u3a in 2017 after many years working locally as a Dental Practice Manager in the NHS. I love going to the Garden and History groups and am also a member of the Social Committee. The u3a is a great forum for making new friends.

I joined the u3a in 2019 following retirement from my work managing social housing throughout the East Midlands area including my hometown of Mansfield. I enjoy membership in a number of groups and am passionate about promoting the benefits of u3a membership to all. I enjoy the friendships and variety of activities in the u3a and also make time for friends and family, traveling and music and remain an active volunteer delivering the covid vaccine in sites at Mansfield and Nottingham.

I have lived and worked in Mansfield all my life and since ‘retiring’ I have been an involved resident for a local Housing Association.
When my husband Steve retired last year, we joined the U3a to get us out into the community and to have some ‘our’ time running and enjoying various groups.

Sue Ford Committee Member Susan Ford Committee Member
I joined U3A when I retired from work on the recommendation of friends who were members. Over time I have enjoyed taking part in the activities of many groups and with Hilary Miller started Writing for Pleasure and feel being a member of the Committee to be a natural progression.

I joined Mansfield & District u3a in November 2016 following retirement from various admin posts in the NHS. I enjoy being a member of the Committee, taking part in Groups, Quizzes and Members Meetings. Other interests include spending time with family, theatre trips and listening to music.

After recommendations from friends, I decided to join the U3A . I enjoyed Strollers, Singing for Fun and the Luncheon Club to name a few, and have met many lovely people.
In 2012 I became joint group leader of Writing For Pleasure with my good friend Sue Ford. The group has been running for over 11 years.
This year I thought it a good idea to become a member of the Committee.
