Interest Groups are the lifeblood of all U3A’s and Maidstone Invicta U3A has an enormous number of enthusiastic members. The U3A ethos of self-help and learning from others is alive and well at MIU3A. All groups are run by members for members (with one exception being Tai Chi where a specialist leader is required). Study materials and mentoring support is available through National Office in a diverse variety of subjects, free of charge. There are also many online courses available to members.
Usually, Groups meet in member’s homes, some, due to large numbers e.g. Digital Photography and Watercolor Painting, meet in a Community Hall. Take a look at the TIMETABLE SUMMARY and make contact with the Facilitator of the Group which interests you. Because groups may be listed as “full” does not prevent another group in the same subject being set up; quite often, all that is required is the organised gathering together of members with enthusiasm for the same subject and a willingness to learn. The Interest Groups’ Coordinator, Liz, will help you through this process; just let her know your interests in the first place. Use this link for more details of the role of Group Facilitator
There is no fee for joining an interest group apart from a few exceptions, for example, the hire of a hall or cost of a specialist facilitator as in Tai Chi. Further information on this can be found by contacting the interest group facilitators directly from the group pages shown below.
