Our very popular MOTO Group – Members on Their Own – have a new Facilitator. Make contact in the usual way via this website. Your support of the new Facilitator is sought to enable its future success.
Following the recent Government announcements, MIU3A has asked all groups to begin thinking of how they may open up within the Covid-19 rules and providing members are happy to do so. We’ll continue to provide regular updates here, in the Newsletter and by email to keep in touch over the weeks ahead and let’s hope we can resume “normal service” sooner rather than later.
Interest Groups are the lifeblood of all U3A’s and Maidstone Invicta U3A has an abundance of enthusiastic members. It’s been the difficulty of running groups during Covid-19 that’s made it so difficult for MIU3A to function although there have been a number of groups that have managed some good activities via Zoom!
The U3A ethos of self-help and learning from others is alive and well at MIU3A where all members are encouraged to share their knowledge and life experiences offering a combined breadth of knowledge to Interest Groups which are run by the members, for the members. Study materials and mentoring support in a diverse number of subjects are available through National Office, free of charge.
Usually, Groups meet in members’ homes, some, such as Digital Photography Table Tennis, Badminton and Watercolour Painting, meet in a Community Hall. Take a look at the list below and make contact with the Facilitator of the Group which interests you. Although a Group may be listed as ‘full’, this does not preclude another Group in the same subject being set up; quite often, all that is required is the organised gathering together of members with enthusiasm for the same subject and, of course, a willingness to learn. Interest Groups’ Coordinator, Liz, will help you through this process, just let her know your idea for a new Group. Use this link for more details of the role of Group Facilitator. There is no fee for joining an Interest Group apart from a few exceptions where, as previously mentioned, the hire of a hall is required. Additional information can be obtained by contacting the Group Facilitator directly from the Group pages shown below.
NEWS FROM THE INTEREST GROUPS COORDINATOR:
It’s not surprising that during the pandemic a few of our facilitators have decided not to continue or, in some cases, have moved away from the area. We are therefore very keen, as we open up, to find facilitators for the following groups that were generally very successful before March last year. It could be one of the existing members would be happy to do so or could do a “job share” with another member. These groups will not be able to restart until we find a facilitator!

Please make contact with Liz Judson (Groups Co-ordinator) if you’d like to discuss the possibilities.
In the months before March 2020, we’d had requests for the following groups to be formed. If you could help set them up, there should be Members willing to join!

Play Reading Group 3

Ten Pin Bowling
Cooking and Eating Together.
For many of the Interest Groups, you don’t necessarily need experience or particular skills, the ‘Leader’ learns along with the members of the Group, enthusiasm is, however, a pre requisite together with a little spare time, the desire to be part of a friendly team and to be with like-minded members who also wish to learn. Speak with others to ascertain their interests which may well coincide with yours and, there we have the basis for another Group for your enjoyment.
As in all matters relating to the formation of a new Group, your Interest Groups’ Coordinator, Liz, is your first point of contact.
Please note that in order to take part in any of our Interest Groups you must be a paid-up member of Maidstone Invicta U3A. See the Membership page for details of how to become a member.
If you or anyone you know of is able to offer any help, with or without knowledge of the subject, please do make contact with Liz via the contact button top of the page.
