Covid-19

June 2020
Even though restrictions are being eased Please practise 'social distancing' as much as possible and follow the government advice.

In line with scientific advice that the risk of virus transmission is lower outdoors, the government revised their legislation on 1st June 2020 to include the following permission:
You can spend time outdoors, including private gardens and other outdoor spaces, in groups of up to six people from different households, following social distancing guidelines

If your U3A group involves an outdoor activity or if you feel you could take your indoor activity outdoors to a garden or a public space then you MUST complete a Risk Assessment Checklist to determine whether it is safe to restart your suspended group. If you have to answer NO to any of the questions, it my not be safe to hold the group in this way at this time.

Once completed, please provide a copy to Groups Liaison and send a copy to EVERY member of the group so that they can complete the Personal Checklist. Before attending they should return it to the Group Leader to confirm that the are aware of the possible risks of participation.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Hilary 01582 425794 or gls@u3a-luton.org.uk

The link to the Risk Assessment is to the right of this page and you will be able to download it.

Thank you and everyone stay safe.

A new website called Greysnet has been launched with the support of the National Lottery Community Fund to help older people all over the country to stay connected and keep mind and body active during the current Coronavirus lockdown.. You can find it at www.greysnet.com It is a dedicated online space where older people can chat with one another through a public forum and find out about all sorts of events and activities they can get involved in while self isolating

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

There is now a facebook page for our U3A Luton. You have to answer a simple question to join it so if you use facebook please take a look and join it. We want to encourage as many of our members joining in as possible. As time goes on Hilary and I will be adding as much as we can to keep you all in touch with what is happening in other U3As and helping you through these difficult times.

If you are a facebook user why don't you join u3a keeping in touch. It brings all U3As together for discussion on all sorts of topics and how everyone is coping, and how their U3As are using up to date technology to run groups during the pandemic.

PLEASE LOOK FOR REGULAR UPDATES FROM THE THIRD AGE TRUST UNDER THE U3A HEADING ON THIS WEBSITE. THEY HAVE PUT TOGETHER A QUESTION AND ANSWER SECTION COLLATING ALL THEIR ADVICE ABOUT COVID-19

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

How are all our groups communicating whilst we are all in lockdown? We would love to hear from you all to help inspire other groups. Our chess group is using skype to have chess games, others are using Zoom and the Spanish conversation group having conversations via telephone. Do let Hilary or myself know.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
If you get bored because your group has decided not to meet because of Covid-19 why not have a look at www.futurelearn.com

They offer free courses in many different subjects with no pressure at all. I have undertaken a couple of them related to family history and they have been excellent. Well worth a look!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

There are lots of organisations in Luton offering to help vulnerable people who are unable to get out to shop. This link gives you a list of organisations and shops offering help.

'How to Guides' go to the U3A tab on the menu to find lots of information and help from The Third Age Trust to get you through the Covid-19 crisis

LEARN, LAUGH, LIVE

This is the current list of groups in U3A Luton. Clicking on a group's name will take you to a page with some more information.

If you would like more information about a group send a message to Groups Liaison from the Contact page or download the brochure from the link on this page.

Groups marked 'full' may be operating a waiting list. Consider contacting the Groups Liaison Service with a view to starting an additional group.

If you have an interest in a topic that is not listed, again contact the Groups Liaison Service.
In addition we still have members wanting to start Italian but have no one to lead it. If you are interested in leading the group or have knowledge of Italian please contact us.

New groups recently started: Lawn Bowls, Raspberry Pi Experimenters and Mexican Train Dominoes.

A new group has been formed called 'Weather and Geology' which is a combination of the previous Geology and Weather and Environment groups.

Contact Groups Liaison for more details.
